Ladysmith Protective Services

Protective Services includes Fire Rescue, RCMP, and the Ladysmith Search and Rescue.

The goals and objectives of Protective Services are directed towards making the community of Ladysmith a safer environment in which to live, learn, work and play.

Ladysmith Fire/Rescue

Ladysmith Fire/Rescue is a volunteer fire department that provides fire protection to the Town of Ladysmith, parts of Saltair and the Diamond Improvement District. The fire protection area spans over 40 square miles.  Ladysmith Fire Rescue is located at 340 6th Avenue and may be reached at 250.245.6436 (non-emergency).

Ladysmith RCMP

RCMP Policing services are provided to the Town of Ladysmith by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The RCMP has proudly served Canadian communities for more than 130 years establishing a reputation as one of the most respected police forces in the world. the Ladysmith RCMP detachment is located at 320 6th Avenue and may be reached at 250.245.2215 (non-emergency).


Ladysmith Search and Rescue. Currently there are thirty five members certified in Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR).  Receives training and support from Emergency Management B.C.  Provides support to other provincial volunteer SAR groups when requested. Founded in 1967.

Emergency Planning

Emergency Planning services are provided on a regional basis by the Cowichan Valley Regional District. The focus of their service is to ensure that a consistent level of preparedness exists for large scale emergencies/disasters within the entire Cowichan Valley and that all participating agencies are identified and included in coordinated planning, training and response activities.
